Failure to Remove Tourniquets Remains a Patient Safety Concern
During blood draws, nurses apply tourniquets to patients' arms. Interruptions during clinical procedures may occasionally result in a tourniquet being unintentionally left in place. Similarly, patients using a tourniquet for hemostasis following dialysis may return home without removing it. Prolonged application can restrict blood circulation and, in severe cases, lead to tissue damage or necrosis.
